Just Try It!

Let me tell you a story about my lunch today...
Once upon a time, there was a little girl, and she was a picky eater. She didn't like fruit. She never dared try an avocado. She thought sweet potato fries were so weird and gross.
Then she grew up, got married and had babies. Out of the blue, she began having all kinds of crazy symptoms. The not so good doctor said, "Eat what you want, here's some pills." That didn't work or fix anything. Then, along came a very good and smart doctor who actually cared, and said "Actually, it does matter what you eat. Let's do some tests and figure what your body wants and doesn't want."  As it turned out, most of what the girl (now woman) was eating was actually making her sick. "Now what?!" she thought, "I can't eat anything!" But she was wrong. There was alot she could eat...but most of it was stuff she "didn't like" or had never tried. That was scary. But, being sick was also scary. So the woman decided to be brave and start eating things like avocados, sweet potatoes and maybe even a little fruit, if it was in a smoothie. She began to realize that most food wasn't bad or scary, and if it was, it was pretty easy to spit it out and never eat it again. She also realized that eating differently was helping her to not feel sick. And the more she healed, the braver she got about trying foods and she actually began to crave the new healthy foods. Amazing!
True story about me.
Eating healthy might seem hard at first. But after awhile, your body will adapt and actually prefer to eat healthy, nutritious food. It just takes a little time to detox the sugar and chemicals and for your taste buds to change. But, if you stick with it, it will happen, and you will not have to suffer through eating things you hate because you will have changed your mind (and tastebuds) about them and actually crave them.
If I'm serving a food my kids don't like, I make them eat one bite anyway; it can actually take like 14 times of trying a new food for your body to accept it, so don't give up on something completely if you don't like it the first time.
Because trust me, you don't want to miss out on avocados and sweet potato fries :)

My Fish Cakes Recipe -(Paleo)-

I am trying to incorporate more fish into my diet, and these delicious fish cakes are a new family favorite! They can be made with tuna or salmon, salmon having slightly more to offer nutritionally; high Omega 3 fats, vitamin D, and selenium. (and more!) Fish is so good for your brain and heart, and can improve your mood, weight, and overall health. Interestingly, the selenium in fish helps keep our bodies from absorbing the mercury found in fish! God's good design :) This article  explains that in more detail, if you're a "nerd" like me and love learning about food. Anyway, on to the recipe! Ingredients- 3 cans salmon, tuna or sardines 3 TBS mayonnaise 3 TBS coconut flour 3 eggs 3 tsp mustard 1/4 tsp salt pepper 1/4 cup chopped green onions (1) Open canned fish and empty into med/large bowl. The fish I use has no added water, so I pour all the juices in too, no draining! Try to keep the fish somewhat off to side. Add the coconut flour to the j...

WhatIEat#43

Oatmeal cake, a classic recipe my mom would make when I was growing up. I have adapted it to suit my family's diet; it is gluten free, lower sugar, and I use pecans on top instead of cornflakes. It is so comforting and cozy to eat; the spices are warming and fragrant, and the texture is soft and moist. It is one of my favorite treats, and I'm so thankful to be able to enjoy it again with my family! A nice bowl of oatmeal, with molasses, chia seeds, cinnamon, cashew butter, butter, coconut oil, hemp hearts and soaked/sprouted pecans. I wasn't able to eat oatmeal for years, due to the pain and bloating it caused. But I'm thrilled to say that I have eaten it many times now with zero digestive issues. It's crazy and wonderful and my brain is still getting used to the idea of it being safe and normal, but every time I eat it, my brain gets a little more comfortable with it. I'm not scared, but I can hear my brain saying, "wait...I thought this w...

This Is Going Well // DNRS review

{This is going W E L L}  Brian gave me this mug for Christmas, and it's my favorite.❤  All the work I've been doing to retrain my brain and heal my body has been going very well, and I am so excited and optimistic about the future!  I mentioned previously that I would be starting the Dynamic Neural Retraining System, (DNRS), which works with neuroplasticity based techniques to heal an impaired limbic system, which is essentially a brain injury that results from trauma and causes your brain to process and store information as if you are in a constant state of "fight or flight", or emergency response.  Trauma is relative to every individual, and there are different types of trauma; obvious things like death, war, victim of a crime, major accidents, and those sort of things are Traumas with a capital 'T'. Things like illness, chronic stress, unstable family life, negative relationships, and many others, are  traumas with a little 't'; on ...
