Here she is, our new adventure, Millie the dachshund. She is a red dapple mini dachshund.
We got her when she was 7.5 weeks old, she is now 10 weeks. She is a very smart little girl; even the vet said so yesterday at her first appointment. Which us good for training because she catches on quick but can be hard because when she has negative experiences she remembers them. We noticed this already a few days after brought her home. We were playing fetch with her with a ball, which she was loving, but then she accidentally overextended her jaw a bit and got the ball stuck in her mouth. She refused to touch the ball for over a week afterward. She loves to play fetch and tug of war and have her tummy rubbed. She is a big snuggler. She also loves exploring our yard, especially to find the places where our cats have left parts of dead mice...yuck.
This is the first picture we saw of Millie. We had to drive three hours to go meet her. We left the kids with my parents in case we ended deciding not to get her...didn't want to break their hearts. When we got back to my parents with her, the kids couldn't believe their eyes. Nathaniel came and whispered to me "Mom, I want to cry, but I'm not going to."❤ Sophie has been telling us almost every day how happy she is that we have a puppy.
When Brian and I went to meet her, we got to the breeders house and there was this teeny tiny puppy running around. The lady had told me she had a runt from another little she was keeping and we assumed that's who the little puppy was. But no, it was Millie! We were surprised and a little nervous to take home such a tiny creature, but she has done so well. She adjusted really well to her new home. The first time I held her, she snuggled into my hands and fell asleep in a minute. "That's a good sign," the breeder told us, "they pick who they like, and she really loves you." She loves to take naps on Brian's chest or snuggle with Sophie in the mornings on the couch. She has a special relationship with Nathaniel too...its almost like she knows he is the youngest. She gets more nippy with Sophie, but she is almost always very calm and gentle with Nathaniel.
She sleeps all curled up, like a little cinnamon roll.
Her favorite place to be is sleeping on someone's lap.
Those eyes....
She loves her toys and will often bring her favorites into her crate and hide them.
Well, it hasn't all been fun and games. A puppy is a huge adjustment and if I had known exactly how much and all it would entail, I wouldn't have done it. But the goal was to add joy to our life, especially for the kids, and she has done that. So we will keep pushing through the hard parts, but I am looking forward to a year from now when she is a just a seamless part of the family, and not a 24/7 mental responsibility. Puppies are most enjoyable when they belong to somebody else. Lol
But they are good snugglers.🐕
